Whereas, we recognize that journalists especially independent progressive media are being targeted by the same oppressive forces that are targeting the people, never forgetting those who have been intimidated and killed in atrocities such as the Ampatuan massacre; and
Whereas, independent media plays an essential role for giving voice to oppressed and marginalized people; and
Whereas the right to freedom of speech is not enjoyed by all people.
Now, therefore, be it resolved that this assembly recognize the importance of independent media to defend free speech, give voice to the oppressed and hold systems accountable to the people.
